About
the Artist / Designer
Jill Rounds lives in a beautiful
valley in Northern New Mexico near Taos. Her career in design
and textiles spans more than 30 years. She began sewing at the
age of 5 and made most of her own clothing as a teenager. Jill
attended art schools in California, Minnesota, and Mexico, studying
printmaking and many aspects of textile design. Her love of
color and nature inspired work with natural dyes. She taught
classes to many age groups and developed an educational exhibit
at the Science Museum of Minnesota, in conjunction with conducting
field research with the museum in Chiapas, Mexico. Making wearable
art in Hawaii and Mexico using naturally hand dyed and silkscreened
fabrics evolved into a line of hand painted clothing sold in
boutiques and made in Santa Fe NM for many years.
Jill moved to Los Angeles to
study textile and surface design, and worked in fashion industry
as a textile designer and colorist.
Upon her return to NM, she designed
a line of architectural tile which was produced in her Taos
studio. The tile was successfully sold through showrooms nationally
for over a decade.
Jijibags is Jill’s return
to wearable design. She is happily embracing her love of textiles.
She also loves the book arts and creates handmade books
and a line of greeting cards when time permits.
